Happy Birthday Crystal!

My friend, Crystal, had a birthday a few weeks ago, and we took a road trip to celebrate it!

I wanted to change the routine of picking a local chain, so I made us a lunch reservation at the Riverboat on the Potomac in Colonial Beach.

Since you are technically in Maryland as soon as you reach the water, and the Riverboat was built on stilts like a pier, the building houses an off-track betting parlor, as well as a tiki bar and the River room, which is where we had lunch.

Here's the view from our table - one one side we could see the beach and beachgoers...

...and on the other, the river:

You could see remnants of the old pier from the current deck:

I bet this deck is hopping on most hot, summer days!

Bonnie brought Crystal a stargazer from her garden, since it is Crystal's favorite flower :)

We all enjoyed our lunches - and of course we forgot to take any pictures of the group!  We always do that!

After lunch we walked down the boardwalk (if you can call it that) to this cute beach shop - we tried on funny hats and made fun of stickers and reminisced about a time when it was cool to wear tye dye fringe shirts at the beach.  Good times.

I like this sign:
I wanted to clap my hands, but I'd had only 1 Stella!

After the beach shop, we walked over to an area where vendors were set up earlier in the day to check out their wares - too bad they had shut down for the day :(  So we had to go home - boo!

Colonial Beach is a cute little town - residents ride around on golf carts to visit neighbors and pick up necessities at convenience stores.  We'll have to make another trip up there one day to visit the antique and crafty shops - they all looked so charming...and you know I love a road trip!

Happy birthday Crystal!  Hope you had a wonderful day :)
